Job Description

General Manager – Hotel Operations

Staffmax is recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced General Manager to lead the operations of a well-established, branded hotel property in Iowa. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of hotel performance, including guest experience, financial results, team leadership, and operational excellence. The successful candidate will bring a strong hospitality background, proven leadership skills, and the ability to drive revenue growth while maintaining exceptional service standards.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Oversee all hotel operations including Front Desk, Housekeeping, Maintenance, and Guest Services
  • Ensure compliance with all franchise brand standards and operational procedures
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for guests and staff
  • Resolve guest concerns professionally and proactively improve service delivery standards

Revenue & Financial Performance

  • Drive hotel performance through strategic management of:
    • ADR (Average Daily Rate)
    • RevPAR (Revenue Per Available Room)
    • Occupancy levels
  • Analyze monthly Profit & Loss statements and operational reports
  • Develop and execute strategies to meet or exceed revenue and budget targets
  • Control operating expenses while maintaining quality service standards
  • Collaborate on sales and revenue management initiatives to maximize market performance

Guest Satisfaction & Brand Performance

  • Lead initiatives focused on improving guest satisfaction and online reputation
  • Monitor and respond to guest feedback across:
    • Online travel agencies (Expedia, Booking.com, etc.)
    • Brand review platforms
    • Guest surveys and reputation management tools
  • Ensure consistent delivery of a high-quality guest experience
  • Maintain strong inspection and audit results

Team Leadership & Development

  • Recruit, train, mentor, and retain a high-performing hotel team
  • Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, and service excellence
  • Conduct coaching, performance management, and employee development initiatives
  • Promote a positive and inclusive workplace culture
  • Support employee retention and long-term team development

Ownership & Stakeholder Communication

  • Provide regular operational and financial updates to ownership
  • Report on financial performance, operational metrics, and market trends
  • Ensure transparency, accountability, and effective communication with stakeholders
  • Align operational strategies with ownership objectives

Sales & Market Positioning

  • Identify opportunities to increase occupancy and revenue
  • Develop relationships with local businesses, community partners, and corporate accounts
  • Support sales initiatives and local marketing efforts
  • Monitor competitor activity and market trends

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3–5 years of hotel General Manager experience, preferably within limited-service or branded hotel environments
  • Strong understanding of hotel operations, guest service standards, and financial management
  • Proven success improving occupancy, ADR, and RevPAR performance
  • Experience managing budgets, forecasting, and P&L statements
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong team-building and operational management skills
  • Experience working within franchise hotel systems considered an asset
