Job Summary:

The Radiation Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized nursing care in collaboration with the Radiation Oncology Team to ensure continuity and quality of patient care. This role involves assessing and managing patient needs related to cancer diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up, with a strong focus on teaching, counseling, and supportive care. The RN acts as a liaison between Radiation Oncology and other healthcare providers and support services, facilitating referrals and coordinating comprehensive care for patients undergoing radiation therapy.

Responsibilities:

• Assess patients and provide nursing interventions for actual or potential problems related to disease, treatment, and recovery.
• Provide education, counseling, and support to patients and families to help them cope with cancer diagnosis and treatment.
• Assist Radiation Oncologists in patient evaluation and examination.
• Serve as liaison between Radiation Oncology and hospitals, departments, physician groups, and counseling/support organizations.
• Coordinate referrals for rehabilitation, nursing home care, hospice, nutritional services, and other resources.
• Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care.
• Maintain knowledge of current oncology practices, protocols, and evidence-based treatments.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in Colorado in good standing.
• Minimum of 2 years RN experience specifically in Radiation Oncology.
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification through the American Heart Association.
• Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification through the American Heart Association.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinic environment.
• Knowledge of oncology, immunology, pharmacology, and cultural sensitivity.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with chronic illness and comorbidity management.
• Highly organized with flexibility to adapt to changing clinical demands.
• Familiarity with the latest trends, procedures, and protocols in hematology/oncology and internal medicine.

Special Considerations:

• Work primarily involves radiation oncology patients, not general medical oncology.
• Role requires coordination with multiple healthcare providers and external agencies.
• Must be able to handle emotionally challenging situations, providing counseling and support to patients and families.

Scheduling:

• Work schedule consists of four 10-hour weekday shifts (4-10's).
