The Browning School is a K-12 boys school located on East 62nd Street (Lower and Middle Schools) and East 64th Street (Upper School) in midtown Manhattan, New York. Founded by scholar and teacher John A. Browning, The Browning School has been a leader in fostering the intellectual and personal growth of boys and young men since 1888. Serving roughly 475 students in kindergarten through grade 12, Browning strives to combine the best of a traditional prep school environment and curriculum with imaginative teaching and a strong value system – all in a single-sex setting.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Browning is searching for an Upper School French teacher for a one month leave from October 26 - November 20, 2026 . The expected salary for this position is $7,000 . A bachelor’s degree or considerable experience in the role is required, while an advanced degree in a related field is preferred. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States.

Key Responsibilities

Upper School French teachers are responsible for creating effective opportunities for language-acquisition, striving to further each student’s proficiency in each of the language arts: listening, speaking, reading, writing. Developing a foundation of francophonic cultural knowledge and empathy is also a major emphasis. All Browning teachers are responsible for building strong relationships with students and delivering the content and curriculum of the Browning program. Successful teachers believe in and desire the growth of all their students and have a passion for their subject matter and for the art, craft, and science of pedagogy. Ultimately, teachers are responsible for the most important work of our School -- knowing our boys and teaching them well.

Among other things, they are tasked with:

1. Teaching French in Grades Nine to Twelve.
2. Implementing and adjusting an existing curriculum in conjunction with the French teacher and the World Language Department Chair. 
3. Advising a group of Grade 12 students.
4. Participating in World Language Department meetings.
5. Using Browning’s Target-Focused Teaching and studentship methods to ensure student growth and alignment.
6. Creating strong relationships with students built on Browning’s core values of honesty, dignity, curiosity, and purpose.
7. Collaborating as a professional, collegial, and inspirational member of the department.
8. Communicating with families about curricular and student matters.
9. Implementing supervisory duties as assigned, such as lunch or study hall coverage.
10. Heartily contributing to the school community.
